Historic Estate in Cumbria
The Levens Estate has tenanted farms in close proximity to the Hall. The lush grassland of South Lakeland is ideal for rearing dairy cows, providing high quality grazing. On Shap Fell, and near Appleby, there are two hill farms dedicated to rearing the hardy indigenous northern breeds of sheep – Swaledale crosses. The smaller of the farms is part of the Country Stewardship Scheme. There are several SSSIs on both farms. Levens Estate also maintains woodlands which support a diversity of wildlife.
