UPDATED 9am, 30 September 2020

The House, Gardens, Gift Shop and Levens Kitchen are open Sunday - Thursday until 29 October.

From 30 October, Levens Kitchen and the Gift Shop will open 7 days a week until 28 March 2021 (closed Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day and then from New Year's Day until 17 January 2021).

It will come as no surprise to learn that we have had to make some slight changes to the way we operate, but we're sure you'll understand that these alterations are necessary in order to keep our visitors and staff safe, so please bear with us during these exceptional times and take a moment to read the information below and throughout the website before you visit.

Gardens admission

Where possible, we ask that you purchase admission tickets to the Gardens online in advance.   Tickets are not date or time specific, and can be used anytime during our opening hours (Sunday - Thursday), before the end of the season on 29 October 2020.

Fortunately we have plenty of space in the Gardens so adhering to social distancing rules is quite simple.  But, if we do feel that the site is becoming too busy, we will operate a one-out, one-in policy immediately.

If you buy a Gardens admission ticket and then decide you would like to "upgrade" your ticket to include entry to the House, that's ok.  Simply go to the entrance kiosk and ask the member of staff on duty - they will be more than happy to exchange your ticket to include the House tour, for a small additional cost of £4 per person.

House admission

Tickets for House admission can only be purchased at the entrance kiosk.  In order to maintain social distancing, we are offering guided tours of the House for groups of up to 8 people.  These take place every 30 minutes between 10.30am and 3pm.  You can book your place on a tour by speaking to our kiosk staff when you arrive.  Tours will last approximately 30-40 minutes.  You should queue at the steps leading to the main entrance to the House at the 2 metre markers.  One of our knowledgeable House Stewards will come and meet you for your tour.  Face masks/coverings must be worn throughout the House at all times.

Historic House members

HH members are welcome to visit at any time during our hours of business.  There's no need to book a visit time.  Just bring your membership card for scanning. If you want to visit the House, you will need to book onto one of the guided tours when you arrive at the entrance kiosk.  (Tours are subject to availability)

Levens Kitchen

Levens Kitchen is offering a delicious SEASONAL MENU (which changes on an almost daily basis) and the new LEVENS PICNIC LUNCH, and has both indoor and outdoor seating. We do not operate a table reservations system.  On arrival you will be taken to a table.  One of our front of house team will come and take your order... then sit back down and relax, and the food will be brought to your table.

Purchases in the Gift Shop and in Levens Kitchen should be made by card, as we cannot accept cash.

To find out more about our opening arrangements, please take a moment to read COVID 19: OPENING ARRANGEMENTS - WHAT TO EXPECT prior to visiting.

Face Coverings

It is a legal requirements for face coverings to be worn in the Gift Shop, Levens Kitchen and the House.

Dogs are welcome on Levens Kitchen Terrace and in the courtyard area outside the Gift Shop only.  Dogs, with the exception of guide dogs, cannot be taken into the House and Gardens or inside the Gift Shop and Levens Kitchen.

Thank you.

Welcome to Levens Hall

Located at the gateway to the Lake District National Park, 5 miles south of Kendal, Cumbria, Levens Hall has grown from a stark, imposing Pele Tower built c1250-1300, into a warm and welcoming family home.  We invite you to marvel at this beautiful privately-owned house and gardens, home to the world's oldest topiary gardens and centre of a thriving 9,500-acre agricultural estate which provides much of the produce used in Levens Kitchen.  Whether you are visiting as an individual, a couple, a family or part of a group, you will find plenty to do and see here.

We very much hope you enjoy your visit.
