VISITOR SAFETY RULES

The health, safety & welfare of Levens Estate employees and visitors are of prime consideration. The standards which the business sets itself are high and it expects all contractors and visitors to adopt similarly high standards.

The following Health and Safety rules apply to contractors, visiting companies, representatives, delivery drivers and any other person visiting the Levens Estate for business or pleasure:

  • All visitors carrying out work or using equipment on site must have appropriate and valid Public Liability Insurance in place before visiting the site. A copy of such insurance must be supplied to the Estate Office prior to the visit.
  • All drivers visiting the premises MUST have the appropriate driving licenses and certificates of professional competence.
  • Where sub-contractors or agency staff are used, they are also expected to have the appropriate driving licenses and certificates of professional competence.
  • All vehicles visiting the premises are expected to be suitably roadworthy with the appropriate insurance, road tax, MOTs and safety checks being carried out.
  • Visiting drivers are expected to adopt a slow and safe speed when entering and manoeuvring around the premises, being mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles. Where a specific speed limit is displayed this must be adhered to.
  • Mobile phones MUST NOT be used whilst driving.
  • Visiting drivers MUST NOT bring children or animals onto the premises.
  • Visitors are expected to take into account the health and safety of our staff and third parties at all times.
  • Visitors are not allowed to use the business's mechanical handling equipment (such as telehandlers) even if they have the appropriate certificates of competence.
  • To prevent falls from vehicles, drivers are reminded not to climb on vehicles unless there is dedicated access equipment, such as ladders and gantries.
  • No smoking is allowed in any of the buildings, or within the boundaries of the gardens. Visitors are expected to dispose of cigarette ends responsibly.
  • All accidents must be reported to a member of staff. First aid is available at various locations around the Estate.
  • If there is a fire, visitors are expected to go to a safe assembly point, as instructed by staff.
  • All visitors should take care in the House where there are uneven floors, staircases, and steps.
  • All visitors should take care near the Ha-Ha, where there is a significant drop. There are also dangers from deep water in the Fountain Garden and alongside the river.
  • Entering the river at any point on the Levens Estate is strictly forbidden.
  • Children must be supervised at all times, especially in the playground, near the Ha-Ha, in the Fountain Garden and alongside the river.
  • There are paved, cobbled, gravel and grass paths throughout the garden which may be uneven. Theses paths may also be slippery when wet. Please take extra care when negotiating such paths.
  • Please avoid contact with plants as some may cause an allergic reaction or may even be poisonous if ingested.
  • Commercial filming or photography, without prior written consent from the owner, is strictly forbidden.
  • No photography is allowed in the House.
  • The use of drones in the Gardens and in Levens Deer Park is strictly forbidden.
  • Do not touch any machinery in the garden or elsewhere on site.
  • Permission to bring any equipment onto the site should be sought from the Estate Office prior to the visit
  • Any equipment brought on to site remains the responsibility of the visitor. Any person using machinery or equipment on site must have the relevant training and insurance to do so, and must ensure that no danger is caused to other visitors or employees of the estate by this equipment.
  • Levens Estate reserves the right to ask any visitors to leave at any time in the event that their behaviour, attitude and/or conduct is deemed by Levens Estate to be disruptive, offensive to others, dangerous, reckless, and/or harmful in any way.
  • The Levens Kitchen menu may contain or come into contact with WHEAT, EGGS, PEANUTS, TREE NUTS AND MILK etc. For more information, please contact Levens Kitchen by emailing houseopening@levenshall.co.uk.
