Levens is a fantastic place for children to explore and has enough activities to satisfy even the most energetic young person. With acres of garden and parkland to run around in, not to mention the many activities that can be found in the hall, there is always plenty to do.

Creepy Crawly Corner

An interactive display encouraging children to learn about the animals and insects living in and around the garden. Situated next to the playground, you will find information to read, birdsong to listen to, pelts to touch and much more besides.

With challenging climbing and slides for children under 12 years and picnic tables for families. Please carefully supervise your children while they are playing in this area.

Willow Maze

Situated within the Gardens at Levens Hall, the Living Willow Labyrinth has been created by Chris Crowder & his team of gardeners. The Labyrinth will grow during the summer months to form a green hedge and provide paths for children and adults to explore as they hunt for the elusive hare in its centre.

Follow the clues in each room and investigate how the house has become what it is today. Who made the beautiful plaster ceilings? How did a card game determine the ownership of the house? Where did the servants live and what kind of jobs did they have? Its all there for you to find out.

Mouse and Bird Hunt

We have a hugely popular mouse hunt in the house and this year the mice are even harder to find! We have also added some beautiful birds who are perching in some of our rooms, can you find them all?

See how the Elizabethans lived and borrow a costume from us whilst you are walking round the hall. Whether you would like to experience life as a maid or as the lady of the house, we have a great selection for you.

Traction Engines

Every Sunday the Levens engines are put on display. The present collection contains working examples of a 1925 Foden Steam Wagon, a Fowler 1920 Showman’s Road Locomotive known as “Bertha” and a half-size Traction Engine called “Little Gem” who (for a small fee) can give you a ride around the grounds. Our steam engineers are always on hand to answer any questions you might have.
