LADY ANDOVER
When Henry Howard inherited Levens Hall, his mother, Lady Andover, was a widow – her husband had died in a hunting accident at the age of 42. Henry invited his mother to make Levens her home, and this it became until her death in 1803. Lady Andover was a very accomplished needlewoman, and examples of her work in gros point and petit point are on display at Levens Hall. She also loved the romanticism of the garden and encouraged her gardener to grow perfumed flowers, rambling roses and honeysuckle among the topiary.
