"PINHOLE CAMERAS IN AN ELIZABETHAN HOUSE"

An exhibition of images in the Bellingham Buttery, at Levens Hall.

4th April - 14th October 2010 (Sun - Thurs 10am - 5pm)

Three local photographers, Rob Bridson, Tom Whitehead and Graham Whitwham, each spent 2008 creating their own personal view of Levens Hall and Gardens using one of the oldest forms of photographic process - PINHOLE PHOTOGRAPHY. A pinhole camera is essentially a closed box with a sheet of photographic paper or a roll of film inside. Opposite the film is a metal disc pierced by a tiny hole admitting the light to expose the film. The Camera has no conventional controls apart from the type of film used and the time of the exposure. The exposures are long, sometimes half an hour or more. The images produced have their own special quality with a soft focus and very wide angle. These Black and White photographs are rich in impact and vibrancy, giving a unique and natural view of Levens and its immediate environment through the open window of a tiny hole.

A book of these images is now available exclusively in our gift shop, at a price of £17.95.
